Frequently Asked Questions

Dynamic has been making the world's finest closures and grilles for quite some time, and over the course of the years we have come to anticipate what our customers are looking for - before they even think to ask! In this section of the web site, we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions. If by chance we have missed something, or if you would like a certain point more fully explained, simply use our handy Contact Us form to drop us note.

Q. Why are they called Window Guards?
A. Window Guards primarily are used to attach to “Main Street”, Plaza and Big Box stores window frontage on the interior.
Q. What is the advantages to attaching to the store windows?
A. Huge advantages. These models are designed to have a “zero clearance” from the glass. This unique design allows the track to be mounted to the window mullions at the top and bottom. This installation is very simple and reduces the construction costs of applying security to an existing store.
Q. Burglar Bars do the same thing don't they?
A. Window Guards move side to side allowing you to move them out of site while the store is open for business. If you have a choice, why would you put yourself in jail all day? Customers that see the window protection while the store is open will feel this is not a safe place to shop. As for appearance the Window Guards are pleasing on the eye, also with Window Guards you can clean the window and change signage with ease.
Q. Why not use roll down doors to protect the storefront.
A. Most communities worth there salt have laws prohibiting exterior roll down doors, does not add to a picturesque down town. Installing roll downs on the interior will costs many thousands more for construction.
Q. Do I still need to build a pocket area to hide the steel frame?
A. This is the most amazing thing about the EZ models; the pocket is only 6-inches wide and fits flush with a 6-inch steel stud. That allows you to build the pocket into a wall. You just drywall over the frame, we even provide 3/4 inch drywall screws so they will not protrude through the 1/2 inch steel frame.
Q. Is there a maximum width for side folding closures and grilles?
A. There is a limit of about 32 feet for EZ Closure into one pocket. Dimensions will vary based on how many posts are needed for that specific layout. Dynamic Closures has made curtains hundreds of feet (almost a hundred meters) wide with our standard side folding models.
Q. What is the maximum height?
A. The EZ models can be 10 feet 4 inches in height. Larger heights are available but please consult factory before you design the space. Dynamic has made a side folding grille as high as 28 feet. Most competitors do not make grilles or closures over 10 feet or 12 feet high.
Q. Are the side folding curtains motor operated?
A. No, there's no need. Proper manual operation moves the curtain through some of the most creative layouts easily, saving the costs of motors and electrical hook up.
Q. How does someone properly operate a side folding grille or closure?
A. It's not hard. Remember to always reach as high as possible and always try to pull the curtain. Dynamic supplies attached pull straps on all curtains 9 feet (2750mm) and over. When storing a curtain into a pocket area you will find standing at the pocket and "feeding" in the grille or closure takes literally seconds.
Q. Is there a bottom track?
A. No! In fact the set clearance from the bottom of the curtain to the finished floor is 1-1/4 inches (32mm); to a counter top 3/4 in.(19mm). Sometimes floors are quite uneven and adding the optional adjustable height hardware is money well spent. The standard clearances may not be enough, or too much. It is because of these unexpected field problems that Dynamic's optional adjustable height hardware can resolve a problem and avoid a crisis. Note: Window Guard models can have bottom track because they are in windows not across entrances.
Q. What is the headroom requirement?
A. Very little. The 1 5/8 inch (41mm) height of the track is often partially or completely 'buried' by sheetrock or surface mounted on the exposed header.
Q. How heavy is the curtain?
A. Curtains are various weights depending on which model you choose. It is important that the entire header-support handle the stacked weight. A comprehensive reference chart can be found on the load requirements page in the details section of this web site.
Q. How many locking posts are there in a curtain?
A. A good rule of thumb is not to exceed a distance of 10 feet from one another for full height curtains, 6 feet for counter height. Posts should be placed on or near center of curves. This can vary slightly with different models.
Q. Why do we need floor or counter sockets?
A. The floor or counter sockets accept the drop bolts from the various locking posts and keeps the curtain in position. Remember there is no floor track.
Q. What is the size of the drill bit needed for floor or counter sockets?
A. A drill bit size of 3/4 inch (19mm) should do it.
Q. What is the best way to drill floors like marble?
A. Carefully! You'll need a diamond tip core drill. We suggest you consult with a professional.
Q. How big is the curtain when stacked?
A. Not as big as you would think, Dynamic has the smallest stacking sizes in the industry. Amazingly, Dynamic’s EZ Closure and SlimLine stacks extremely small also. You can easily calculate the size of the stack using the reference chart on the stacking dimensions page in the Details section of this web site.
Q. Why is Dynamic's standard finish clear anodized?
A. The simple answer is to make a quality product. Unlike mill finish, a clear anodized finish will not oxidize and will be a clean grille to handle for years to come.
Q. Is the Pocket included with the curtain?
A. Dynamic's EZ Closure includes a steel frame pocket and pocket door. All other side-folding models do not include a pocket. The general contractor builds the pocket and provides the door.
Q. Do I buy the Pocket Door from Dynamic?
A. Again, it is included with the EZ Closure. All other models the general contractor fabricates the door on site to fit the decor.
Q. When I ask for a 45° curve, I am told its a 135° curve. I don't understand.
A. You are on the right track, just on the wrong side. A straight line is 180°. Simple math adds 45° plus 135° equaling 180°. The curved track is actually 135°. You can learn more about curves on the curve details page in the details section of this web site.
